On the way to Mount Popa, we witness a noviciation procession. In Myanmar, it is an honor for families to send their children around age 10 to a monastery for a week of Buddhist instruction. Before the children enter, they are paraded in full regala, donning ancient Myanmar fashion and wearing all the jewelry theyContinue reading “Tuesday, 05 January 2016 – 1,000 Step Climb”

Monday, 04 January 2016 – Tour
Left with Ananda Temple on our list of temples to visit. But before that, we toured lesser traveled areas of Bagan on bikes. The kids absolutely loved it. I get to carry Alix on a baby carrier, so the 5 or us got to see village life along with the smaller pagodas. Wonderful experience thatContinue reading “Monday, 04 January 2016 – Tour”
Sunday – MAF Run
Cold. Really cold. Well, not that cold, but significantly colder than what I’m used to. But I know from experience that cold will keep my HR down, and boy, it did. Average pace at 6:17min/km, which is about 45 seconds faster than back at home. And this is a fasted run as well. Took theContinue reading “Sunday – MAF Run”
Saturday – Travel Day
Flew from Singapore to Mandalay, then took a van from Mandalay to Bagan for 4 hours. New environment, late in the day, so no way I’m gonna do anything today.
Friday – Evening MAF Run
Third day in a row of running and MAF, I believe, is starting to pay dividends. My HR stayed low and, with the same intensity of the last two day’s run, my HR did not shoot up. So what’s different today? 1) I’m running in the evening. 2) Though I didn’t eat right before theContinue reading “Friday – Evening MAF Run”
Thursday – Fasted MAF Run
In Singapore today. Ran around Marina Bay twice. Glanced at the pace in the beginning and was happy to find my pace drop below 6:00min/km. But my pace quickly increased shortly after started and slowed to a crawl by halfway. Moving from a walk to a run rockets my HR from 130 to above 140Continue reading “Thursday – Fasted MAF Run”
Wednesday – Fasted MAF Run
Ran in the morning fasted. Measured my HRV at a high of 84. Thought I’d run fast enough at MAF today, but it was really really slow. 7:00min/km pace. But it was really really hard to keep my HR below 140, even from the beginning. Not used to running in mornings. Perhaps that’s the reason?Continue reading “Wednesday – Fasted MAF Run”
Tuesday – No Workout
My out of town work day. Return home late, and I don’t really enjoy working out too late in the evening, especially close to bed time. So nothing today, and didn’t even feel like working out.
Monday – MAF Bike
Went to my goto over-under sweet spot workout on Zwift as my first MAF workout back from illness. Wasn’t all too difficult to keep my HR low enough so I think I’m back to normal health.
Sunday – Recovery
Spent today simply resting and recovering from illness. Took my road bike and took an easy spin around the block just to get my blood moving again after a few days of immobility. And ate.
